Diabetes

Diabetes is a chronic metabolic disorder in which the body does not produce or properly use insulin, the hormone that is needed to convert sugar, starches and other food into energy needed for daily life. There are 2 types of diabetes. Type 1 is characterized by impaired insulin production, usually developing suddenly in people under the age of 30. Treatment for Type 1 diabetes usually requires daily insulin injections, often for life. Type 2 diabetes is present when cells don’t respond or utilize insulin properly. It develops gradually and tends to affect people over age 40. This second type of diabetes can usually be managed through lifestyle changes. If untreated this disorder can contribute to other conditions such as cardiovascular disease, kidney disease, visions loss, and nerve damage. Some symptoms of diabetes are: Weakness or fatigue, blurred vision, increased hunger, excessive and frequent urination, excessive thirst, slow healing cuts and wounds, and numbness or tingling of the hands and feet. Genetic factors play a role in both types of diabetes, and obesity is though to be a risk factor for Type 2 diabetes. Holistic and alternative approaches recommended by our practitioners:
